Year 2 Spotlight

Learning in Year 2!

While we may not be in the physical classroom, the Year 2 students have been working hard with their learning. During this term, students are learning about food and fibre production as part of their Inquiry unit in Design and Technology. They have explored how wheat has been harvested and turned into bread, how milk is produced, and the processes involved in making chocolate and growing rice.

Procedural Writing

Students have enjoyed writing their procedural piece for their sandwich and smoothie creations and learnt how to expand a simple sentence using the ‘who, what, when, where and why’ strategy.

Reading

The current focus in reading is how to summarise a piece of text. Students have done a great job of learning how to use the Beginning, Middle, End strategy, the Someone, Wanted, But, So strategy and the Uh! Uh! Phew! strategy. These strategies help students identify the most important parts of the text which they can turn into a short summary.

Mathematics

We have been learning multiplication and division strategies as the number focus in Maths. Students have enjoyed the non-number focus of location and transformation. They have learnt about how maps help us find things and how to flip, slide and turn an object.
