Book Week 2021

Theme: Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds

Book Week 2021

At this stage, we plan to celebrate Book Week at school on Monday 23rd August. If we are on site on that day children are invited to come to school dressed in a costume related to the theme or as a favourite character from a book.

The theme this year is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.

Costume ideas based on some of the shortlisted books:

My Birthday Was the Best: Dress up as a cockroach and carry a slice of cake, real or made of cardboard. Or dress as the birthday child and carry a cake with a fake cockroach on it.

Norton and the Bear: wear a bear costume or dress like Norton.

Ellie's Dragon: Create a dragon costume to wear. Make bat wings and add a tail.

The Unwilling Twin: Carry a stuffed toy pig.

Go Away, Worry Monster! Turn a sock into a Worry Monster and wear it on your hand in the parade.

Ribbit Rabbit Robot This could be a group dress-up with three children each dressed as a different character (rabbit, frog or robot) and carrying a magic lamp.

Busy Beaks: make a bird mask.

Anemone is Not the Enemy: turn yourself into a sea anemone; remember to add the clownfish

Worse Things: Bring a hockey stick or football to be one of these characters.

The Stolen Prince of Cloudburst: Create a costume for a magical creature from the book.

Old World costume ideas:

Viking, Egyptian mummy or pharaoh, Tutankhamen, Cleopatra, Ancient World Olympian, famous explorer, dinosaur, biblical character

Other World costume ideas:

Witch, wizard, mermaid, dragon, alien, unicorn, robot, fairy tale or nursery rhyme character

So, start thinking about your costumes! The ideas are limitless!

Hopefully, we will be back to onsite learning. We might not be able to have a whole school Book Week Parade at assembly but we will be able to see all the costumes at recess and lunchtime.

Of course, if we are still in lockdown children are invited to dress up at home on that day. We will keep families informed of any changes to plans.

Happy reading everyone!
