Year 10 Environmental Science

On Thursday 20th May, the year 10 Environmental Science class had the pleasure of welcoming VSC alumnus Raylene Cooke into our classroom.

Raylene is an Associate professor from the School of Life & Environmental Science at Deakin University and the course director for the Bachelor of Environmental Science (Wildlife and Conservation Biology). Raylene shared her years of experience & research on Powerful Owls

Students learnt about real life applications of sampling techniques, food web interactions, requirements for successful breeding pairs and human impacts on the distributions of this beautiful species.

Did you know we have Powerful owls in our neighbourhood? Raylene say’s to “Look up!” as you walk through the Bellbird del and surrounding areas.

We thank Raylene for generously sharing her time, knowledge and experience with our class. Our students were very excited to see a real-life application of a life of study in the field of Environmental Science!
