Barista Training kicked off with great enthusiasm on Monday morning with the rich aroma of coffee wafting through the hallways, awakening the senses and driving the eagerness of the students to start making coffees. After a few technical glitches were ironed out, Phillip the trainer guided the students through the machines operations and soon after the coffee machines were pumping out hot espressos, lattes, cappuccinos and hot chocolates galore to appreciative VSC staff and some very lucky students. Many thanks to Phillip for extending the session through lunch to make up time. The enthusiasm continued today with a new group of students and a new trainer Giovanni, affectionately known as Gio. The session ran like clockwork with lots of activity and orders taken. Gio will continue to train Barista participants this week until Thursday in the Fallon Centre Conference Room.
The next part of the program will now be rescheduled. Watching the students so actively engaged in this hands on activity is very rewarding, providing participating students with a wonderful experience and new set of skills to put on their resumes.
If you have a coffee machine at home it would be great to encourage your young person to continue practicing the art of coffee making and texturizing milk to keep their skills current.
Yr10 Careers Fast Track – 2nd & 3rd Stages
The 2nd Stage of CFT is well underway with a great participation rate during the lunchtime sessions. Students have been actively reading and refining their career portfolio’s in preparation for 1:1 interviews starting this week until well into Term 3.
Individual interviews are only available to students that have completed Stage 1 & 2. If your young person has not started the quizzes, please encourage them to complete asap.
This program is very different from the Yr9 Morrisby portfolio which was more centred on aptitude. This program focuses on personality, values, learning styles, preferences to further study, career and work.

Work Experience
Work Experience participation is optional at VSC, however we strongly encourage all students aged 15yrs+ to get involved in this very beneficial and rewarding program. Students can undertake Work Experience every year up until they graduate VSC.
Work Experience provides young people with a taste of the real world of work and a clearer understanding of a particular industry or business they may be interested in pursuing in the future. It assists in career discovery and exploration, goal setting and decision making whilst preparing students for VCE, future tertiary studies, apprenticeship/traineeships or full time work.
There are no designated time frames for students to complete placements as we believe a flexible delivery arrangement provides students with a better opportunity to meet the availability and operational time frames of businesses and industries within the community. This also means we are not competing with other local schools which can limit student’s placement opportunities.
Placement dates are arranged through consultation and negotiation between the employer, school and student to maximise the experience. Drop into Pathways to discuss further and collect the Preparing for the Workplace pack.
Students that are not going on the Darwin trip may want to consider the last week of Term 3 as the perfect opportunity to undertake work experience.
