The Learning Zone 2

Debating Success

Some of our Year 6 students are competing in an inter-school debating competition. The competition is coordinated by Kerrie Priddus from the CSO office. The students participate in a live debate via a zoom hookup with another school. Students get approximately 2 weeks to prepare their arguments. Our first debate took place yesterday against St Nicks in Tamworth. We were on the affirmative side arguing 'Mobile Phones Should be Banned in Schools'. Team One (1st Speaker - Stella Davies, 2nd Speaker - Eva Bentham, 3rd Speaker - Jed Smallwood, 4th Speaker - Patrick Waterford) won the debate. They had a good line of argument and spoke confidently and clearly. We were very excited to have a win and learnt a lot from the experience.

The team would like to thank Mrs Bentham who gave up her time and came in to help the students put together their arguments and to "up-level" their vocabulary.

Term Two will see us debating against Holy Trinity, Inverell on the 8th of June - topic still to be announced.
