The Living Well, Learning Well Framework - Resilience

The Oxford Languages definition of the word ‘resilience’ is “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties, toughness.”

Resilience is often used in conjunction with the term wellbeing. It is associated with attributes of the capacity to cope, learn and thrive in the face of change, challenge, or hardship. Individual qualities of optimism, social competence, sense of agency, problem-solving skills, an effective coping style, pro-social values, a sense of purpose, and attachment to family, school and learning are all attributes of resilience that a school strives to develop in their students. The staff of St Mary’s promote development of these attributes through positive adult-student relationships and consistent adult modelling and individual guidance. Building a child’s resilience is a shared responsibility in our school.
