Classroom News - Year 1

Mrs Flynn and Mrs Suluma

Year 1 is on a roll and well on their way with learning. In Religion we have been looking at the Easter story and becoming familiar with the Resurrection, Ascension and Pentecost stories.

In  English, we learned about adjectives and how they can be added to our writing to describe nouns. We are also learning our Set 6 Tricky words. Please continue to practice this set as well as the previous sets already learned. In Maths we learned about Area and how to measure the surface of 2D objects using informal units. This week we are working on Addition and Subtraction and some strategies to use when solving addition and subtraction problems. We learned that we can use 'bridging to 10', 'doubles' to solve near double problems, and 'number lines'.

Students working in pairs to find the area of their object.

Students using learned addition and subtraction strategies to solve their maths problems.

In History, we are learning about families and are coming towards the end of our unit. We had fun putting together family portraits.
