Grade 3/4 Students

Celebrating our tremendous Threes and fabulous Fours !

3/4A - Miss Lee

Rory applied creativity and persistence to produce an excellent persuasive piece for Education Week – “Montmorency is the Best Community”.

And just look at the efforts of these students as they investigate subtraction strategies.  So committed to becoming number superstars!  Well done  Kian, Jaimee, Mia, Evelyn and Tylahr!

3/4B - Miss Brook

During Gardening, students have been working in their groups doing various jobs around the grounds at Monty. Some have been planting, weeding and watering. Others have been sorting seeds, snail hunting and harvesting.

3/4C - Mr Lewis

This week in Maths the students have been learning how to apply the subtraction vertical algorithm to find the difference between two amounts of something. This is Osha's cityscape with buildings of different heights.

In Writing, the students are learning more about persuasive techniques, including how to persuade others in a verbal manner using emotive language. Here, Ethan is deciding whether Zoos are beneficial to animals in any way.

3/4D - Mr Mitch

During Term 2, Finn C., Isla S. and Felix M., have participated in a STEM unit (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) where they have sown seeds and minored the progression of each living organism.

This week we introduced debating which will form our new unit within writing. During an introduction lesson students were given a controversial statement or question. Student’s were required to agree or disagree with the statement and prodive evidence to support their arguments. (Isla S., Amelia B., Felix M., Lachie S.)

3/4E - Ms Margarita

This week we have continued our Subtraction Unit with students exploring the 'Spot the Gap' strategy to work out the difference between two numbers. In this activity, they created towers with a different amount of storeys and then asked questions to explore the difference between the two. It was wonderful to see the various ways that students approached the task, with some using single or double digit numbers and also fractions.

For our Education Week Open Afternoon, 3/4E loved welcoming families into our room and sharing some of our learning. A special persuasive piece linked to the Education Week theme was created for the day, titled "Montmorency is the Best Community".  I must say, I agree!
