GSSC Leadership Team

Unfortunately, the last few weeks have again been interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff and students are to be congratulated on the way they quickly adjusted and moved back into Remote Learning mode. Thankfully the state wide lockdown was only for a short period and fingers crossed that this is the last time we need to do so.

Reports are currently being finalised by teachers and are scheduled to be published on Compass on Friday 18th June. If there are any changes to this date parents will be notified through the Compass portal. Just a reminder that reports are no longer printed. Should there be an issue with access please contact the school.

The Attitudes to School Survey was another of our activities interrupted by the lockdown and as a result the completion date has been extended. At this stage we are well on the way. The survey is a valuable tool for us to look at areas in need of improvement. Staff, students and parents are asked to complete surveys each year and the feedback is used to help determine the areas to focus on, as we move forward.

The GAT (General Achievement Test) which was scheduled for June 9th was another casualty of the lockdown. At this stage the new date for the GAT is still to be determined. All students undertaking a Unit 3 or 4 are required to sit the GAT.

On Wednesday 9th June the curriculum day that was held proved to be very successful. Discussions regarding the structure of GSSC in terms of Leadership, Wellbeing and Curriculum arrangements, for 2022 and beyond, were very productive and provided a great platform for the decisions that need to be made, to ensure that we are ready for next year.

As the end of Semester approaches, it is important that students ensure that their assessment for Semester one is completed and to begin preparation for Semester two. This is a good time to make sure all the student’s stationery supplies are supplemented where necessary.

Students in Year 7-10 will be changing electives at the end of semester, whilst VCE students will complete Units 1 or 3 and begin Units 2 or 4.

Year 12 students have approximately 13 weeks of classroom instruction left of their education. This is followed by a week of study and then, for the majority, the English Exam.  With such a short time left I encourage all Year 12 students to make the most of this time so they can perform at their best in the Examination period.

The last day of Term 2 is Friday 25th June and school will finish one hour earlier than usual. School buses will also move forward one hour.
