WORLD BEE DAY - MAY 20th

LOVE FOOD? LOVE BEES!

KEEP THE GLOBAL HIVE ALIVE

Our food depends on bees! Bees pollinate a whopping two thirds of our food production. Without bees there would be no apples, almonds, avocados, cherries, kiwifruit, apricots, peanuts, blueberries, plums, macadamias, mangos, oranges, peaches, pears and watermelon. There would be no beans, broccoli, cucumbers, carrots, cauliflower, celery, mustard, onions, pumpkins, squash and sunflowers. There would be no clover and lucerne which feed the livestock that we get dairy and meat from.

Bees around the world are in serious trouble. Human activity is reducing and changing their habitats and food sources. They are vulnerable to pests and diseases through the overuse of pesticides.

BE BEE FRIENDLY!

Grow flowers such as Grevillia, Eucalyptus, Bottle Brush, Banksia, Tea Tea, Rosemary, Lavender, Thyme and Basil.

Put stones and sticks in bird baths to stop bees drowning.

The grades 1 and two children have been making bees to highlight World Bee Day on May 20th. The Foundation children have helped by making the honeycomb. Watch out for this display to go up soon!

ZART STUDENT ART PRIZE

Our primary art supplier is again running a competition for students. The theme for 2021 is OUR CELEBRATION OF AUSTRALIA. Entries can be submitted between June 14th and July 19th. Whilst this is not a competition for which we will specifically be creating art, some of the art we have done this year, or late last year may well fit the criteria. If you are interested you can pick up a flyer from outside the art office, or get more information directly from the source at www.zartart.com.au

I encourage you to enter if interested!

DONATIONS PLEASE

I am still looking for donations of old Melways for a grade 1 and 2 artwork to be called Birds of the Burbs, later this term. Perhaps you still have one knocking about in the back of your car that you no longer use?

I will happily take it off your hands! Or any other old maps would be good too.

I'm good for the time being with newspapers. Thank you to everyone who supported this.

Cheers to all!

Mrs Hortin.
