Learning Across the ELC

Learning about how things grow

On Friday 25 November, the Preschool classes made the trek up the freeway to Beerenberg Farm, where they spent time in the strawberry patch picking their own strawberries. This correlated with our inquiry for this term which has been centred around how things grow. The Preschool children have been growing their own strawberries in our class garden beds. The children have watched timelapse videos of strawberries growing, learning how to identify which strawberries are ready to be picked.

Upon arrival, each child was given a punnet, which they were able to fill with strawberries…they even ate a few along the way. We were blessed with beautiful sunny weather, and we watched as the children ran through the rows picking their strawberries. We found lots of very big strawberries to put in the punnets, but some children took their time to find some of the smaller strawberries.

After stopping for morning tea, we had a look inside at the new Farm Shop, before taking a quick photo at the strawberry sign. For some children, the highlight was the bus trip up and back!
