Music

Music is an important part of life and plays a significant role in every culture. The study of Music can help to foster awareness and appreciation of our community and various cultural traditions. The basics of Music – listening, composing and performance are developed through student and teacher integrated activities. Music is studied by all students in Year 7 and 8, and is available to HSC level as an elective. 

Students are encouraged to: 

• Develop a response to music in an individual way 

• Create awareness and appreciation of past and present practices and context 

• Develop literacy skills through a musical context. 

During their Music Studies students will develop: 

• The ability to perform as a means of self-expression 

• Develop musical skills 

• Develop solo and/or ensemble techniques 

• Interpret musical sounds and symbols. 

Throughout Year 7 and 8 students will work on a variety of pieces at their own level of achievement. Some class groups will work more slowly, and others will push through the work at a faster pace and more difficult level. To accommodate such differences in ability levels, a list of pieces to be used has been developed. The teacher may draw on these as necessary, and change pieces to suit the class ability level. All performance pieces will include basic notation, basic score reading, performance, and aural work.
