Drama

Drama as a subject is studied as an elective subject during Years 9 - 12. In studying Drama, students participate in a variety of workshops and activities to develop fundamental performance skills and outcomes. Self-confidence, motivation and self-esteem are developed through the devising, workshopping, rehearsing and performing of individual and collaborative works. Activities include games and exercises which help develop confidence, speaking, working in group situations, understanding characterisation as well as the fundamental theatrical conventions. Learning experiences in Drama are provided which involve the intellect, emotions, imagination and body, and engage the whole person.

Years 7 - 8

In Years 7 and 8 Drama texts are studied as part of the English Curriculum.

Years 9 - 10

The Stage 5 course involves students in the components of making, performing and appreciating Drama. As a practical subject students are expected to participate in all activities and complete major performance tasks including monologues, duologues and both scripted and non-scripted material as part of their formal assessment. They also have the opportunity to be involved in experiences including the CAPA concert as well as State Drama ensemble and excursions to various Theatre Productions and workshops.

Years 11 - 12

Students may also choose to study Drama for their Higher School Certificate in Stage 6. This involves a practical component worth 60% of the course mark. Students must create a group performance and an individual project (which may be performance, costume design, poster-programme, film or stage design). 40% of the course consists of theory, studying acting techniques and theatrical conventions.
