Independence Centre

Curriculum
Selamat tinggal!
In the blink of an eye we've reached our final full week of the year!
In Writing sessions last week, students spent time publishing their biographies and autobiographies. Students are looking forward to sharing their autobiographies with their new teachers and class members for next year during Step Up week so they can quickly learn some important information about each other. Students also wrote their reflection for the year which was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all their achievements. Keep a look out in your child’s SeeSaw portfolio to see what they are proud of and looking forward to for next year.
In Reading, students analysed a range of informative videos and created their own for the Year 2 students to give them some information about what to expect in the Independence Centre. Some topics included ‘Looking after your iPad’, ‘Preparing for Camp’ and ‘How to use Minecraft Edu’. We look forward to sharing these with the Year 2 students during Step Up week.
In Maths, students practised using various problem solving strategies in extended problems covering a range of topics such as addition, shape and area. It was great to see students use their perseverance and be able to articulate their strategy and thinking processes.
In Guided Inquiry students completed their islands. The teamwork and creativity shown within each group is definitely evident in the final products and all students should be very proud of their efforts.
Another highlight was the Christmas Concert. It was wonderful to see such a great turn out at our community event after not being able to hold it for a few years. The students impressed with their enthusiastic rendition of 'Let it Snow' and 'Ev'rybody's going on a sleigh ride'.
The much anticipated Step Up week will begin tomorrow. All classes have been discussing the transition process and have received an insight into what the following year level is like through short presentations by our SRC Representatives. It is a very exciting time and students are looking forward to the opportunity to find out their new teachers and make new friends in their 2023 classes.
