Principals' Update

Welcome Back

We hope that this newsletter finds all of our CNPS students, staff and families well and that you have all had a relaxing and enjoyable school holiday period. We are extremely excited to start a new year of school and welcome our students and families back onsite on Tuesday 31 January.

First Day of School for Students in Years 1 to 6 - Tuesday 31 January

First day for 2023 Foundation Students 6 February

Start of the Year Staff Professional Learning

On Friday 27 January our staff will be participating in a curriculum day covering the following agenda items: Professional Learning with Dr. Ryan Dunn followed by First Aid Training

On Monday 30 January our staff will be participating in a ½ day of professional learning facilitated by Shannon Walker and Catherine Manella -  Mental Health and Wellbeing Coordinators Career Start Unit NEMA.

Meet and Greet - Monday 30 January 2:30pm-3:30pm

This year we will be conducting a Meet and Greet Session for all students in Years 1 to 6. This is an opportunity for students and parents to drop by and visit their classroom and teacher the day before school starts. The purpose of this Meet and Greet session is to provide our students with an opportunity to familiarise themselves once again with school,  their classroom, classmates and their teacher. This is also an opportunity for parents to have a quick chat with their child’s teacher and pass on any important information that may impact on their child’s first day of school.

Parents of students with additional or neurodiverse needs that may find this Meet and Greet Session over stimulating are encouraged to contact their child’s 2023 class teacher to arrange an alternate time to visit the classroom if required.

After this session we encourage our CNPS students and their families to stay in the school grounds and catch up with other families, particularly those who have children in the same class/classes.

2023 Schoolwide Teams

Changes to the School Timetable Recess and Lunchtime

This year, we will be moving to 1 hour learning sessions as opposed to the previous model of 50 minute sessions. Our teaching staff welcome this change as 1 hour sessions mean they have more teaching time to implement our teaching and learning models and this means that our weekly teaching time for Reading, Writing and Mathematics will increase from 250 minutes per week to 300 minutes per week in each of these learning areas.

Please see the new times for our learning sessions, in particular the changes to recess and lunchtime breaks.

We remind all families to please pack plenty of brain food as all of our bodies adapt to these new lunch times. We will be monitoring the change of eating times and will review this timetable at the end of Term 2.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you all next week! Enjoy the rest of the school holidays.
