Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

During Term 4, we have conducted extensive planning for 2023. This has included an evaluation of our key successes against the 2022 Annual Implementation Plan (AIP), as well as determining our key areas of focus for 2023.

In my final newsletter report of 2022, I will now summarise the important updates across a wide range of areas at the College.

Class of 2022 – Congratulations!

On Friday 18th November, our Class of 2022 Year 12 Graduates gathered for a very special evening.  Students and their families were invited to attend our graduation ceremony and dinner where students were recognised for successfully completing their 13 years of schooling.

For some students, they may be the first to achieve the milestone of completing Year 12, for others, it symbolises the beginning of the next chapter in education in life beyond school.  This includes apprenticeships, TAFE, university or learning on the job in the workforce.

I am proud of the resilience our Year 12 cohort have shown over the past few years and know that we will see our LSC Graduates achieve great things in the years to come.

Election commitments of $13.6M for Lyndhurst Secondary College

I am pleased to announce that as part of the pre-election visits from both the Labor and Liberal parties and their representatives, Lyndhurst SC has received election commitments from both parties to provide funding of $13.6M to the school if elected.

This is a fantastic result for our college and will ensure that our college is able to have facilities our young people deserve.  The funding will be used to upgrade building facilities identified as priority areas by the college.  I look forward to working with the community to further develop these priorities and plans over the next few years.

2023 Annual Implementation Plan

For 2023, our priorities will focus on two simple ideas that are critical to the success of a high-performing school; Learning and Wellbeing. Underneath each priority, we have identified two actions that will form the basis and focus for our work in 2023. A summary of these are outlined below.

Learning: Support both those who need extra support and those who have thrived to continue to extend their learning, especially in numeracy.

  • Action 1: Develop, implement and document a guaranteed and viable curriculum that provides students with voice, agency and opportunities to connect learning to life.
  • Action 2: Build staff capacity to design and implement high-quality assessment practices.

Wellbeing: Effectively mobilise available resources to support students' wellbeing and mental health, especially the most vulnerable.

  • Action 1: Support improved student engagement and wellbeing through the effective implementation of homegroup and mentoring structures and resourcing.
  • Action 2: Implement and embed effective policies and processes to enable all students to be ready for learning (attendance, pre-conditions, behaviour).

Holiday works and upgrades

As part of our minor works overseen by the school, we will be using time from late November to the commencement of the 2023 school year to undertake minor building and facilities improvement works around the college. This includes:

  • Preparation of two classroom spaces to come online in 2023 (D3 and A6)
  • Painting, recarpeting and furniture replacement in D Block space (D9 to D15)
  • Movement of Careers Team location to connect to Library to provide a more centralised hub
  • Minor building works to create new office spaces for Junior Sub School and Middle Sub School
  • Refreshing of student locker bays with cleaning/painting
  • Installation of new Year 7 lockers in E Block space

I thank our Business Manager, Mr Craig Kendall, for the immense amount of organisation and preparation that has gone into getting ready for these works.  I know our students will be grateful to see fresh spaces and will treat these with great pride and respect as we focus on improving the learning environment for our students every day.
