Safety & First Aid News

As a SunSmart school we aim to protect children and staff from too much UV.   Sun safety is a shared responsibility and staff, parents and students are encouraged to implement a combination of sun protection measures whenever UV levels reach 3 or above. Information about the daily local sun protection times is available via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, the free SunSmart app, or at sunsmart.com.au or bom.gov.au.

We encourage students to apply a generous amount of sunscreen before school and make sure children have sunscreen in their bag ready to reapply throughout the day. Students will be given reminders from their classroom teacher to reapply sunscreen before going outdoors.  Please ensure children get plenty of sunscreen application practice at home so they’ll be all set when they are at school. Under supervision, ask children to put a dot of sunscreen on each cheek, nose and chin and rub it in (avoiding the eye area) and sunscreen squiggles or dots on the back of the neck, arms and legs to cover these areas.

To ensure we are all safe:

  • Adults delivering/picking up children to use the footpaths entering the school.  Please do not walk through the staff carpark.
  • Drivers delivering students during the day eg. late arrival or alternative arrival, are asked to secure the gate with the gate bow.
  • Driving through the staff carpark as a thoroughfare is prohibited.
  • Drivers are NOT to overtake vehicles as this is a safety concern for staff escorting students to the opposite side of the car.
  • Drivers are to stay in the car until your child/ren arrive.
  • Drivers are to ensure seat belts are secure before driving.
  • Kiss and Go users are highly encouraged to turn left into and out of the Kiss and Go on Browns Road to assist with traffic flow.
  • Kiss and Go users travelling on Browns Road from Westerport Port Hwy will be highly encouraged to do a u-turn at the Browns Rd/Pearcedale Rd roundabout and then turn left into the Kiss and Go.
