Physical Education

How good is it to have our hardcourt space back! The children have been loving shooting hoops, playing line tiggy and playing four square. It is amazing to hear so much laughter!

The focus of the P.E lessons for the start of the year has revolved around our school values and giving everything a go!

House Cross Country

Our first whole school event is taking place on Friday 24th February. It is always a great day where students cheer on their peers and sing their house chants with pride.

The students have been running the course in preparation. Please refer to information posted on Compass for more details.

I wonder which house will reign supreme in 2023!

Environmental Studies

We are off to an amazing start! Term 1 is one of my favourites, it's so lovely to see all the students again and there enthusiasm is high.

Year 5/6 are digging deep to learn all about coal in our Essential Energy unit, this week they went Choc-chip mining!

Year 4's are revising their knife skills and learnt how to julienne carrots and cucumber whilst making sushi!

Year 3's are learning all about working safely in the garden and how to use the weeder, shovel and fork. They have the huge job of cleaning and weeding the Indigenous Garden.

Foundation, Year 1 and 2 students have been very creative in Nature Play, participating in a Wonder Walk, Turtle Dreaming and Bush Medicine Activities.

Artistic Flair

Whole School

In the first week of school ALL students read the story 'The Dot' and learnt about how a piece of artwork can be started just with a dot. All students created their own dot using oil pastels in warm or cool colours. The middle school and senior students also took inspiration from the artist Kadinsky and his artwork Concentric Circles. Please check out our collborative artwork in the foyer of the Murrup building.

Foundation

Students in foundation have been learning about the Elements of Art and using different lines, colours and patterns in their artwork.

Junior School

Students in Grade 1 and 2 have been learning about line and created their own 'line people'. They have also begun their study on artist Eric Carle (Illustrator of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and Mister Seahorse). Students are working on creating their own underwater seahorse composition in the style of Eric Carle using painted paper collage.

Middle School

Students in Grade 3 and 4 have worked on creating a Lego Minifigure based on their own features and interests. They have used scrunched paper to print their backgrounds and learnt how to frame their work using a 3 layer technique.

Senior School

Students in grade 5 and 6 have been learning about neurographic art, a meditative drawing process that combines psychology and art. The technique is said to link your conscious and subconscious mind and create new neural pathways.

The creative drawing process can help to reduce stress, transform subconscious beliefs and create an overall sense of well-being.  The students have enjoyed this artwork so much they have asked to continue their pieces for multiple sessions. They agreed it helped to relieve stress and anxiety.

Social Wellbeing

Social Wellbeing has got off to a calm and relaxed start. We have been exploring the Zones of Regulation and acknowledging how our bodies feel within the Green Zone. The Foundation students have been talking about all the things that make us happy and drawing them with Chalk.

Years 1-4 have been practicing our calm down strategies through breathing and slowing down, to help return to the Green Zone. While the Year 5 and 6 students have been looking at how their behaviours and unexpected reactions to a scenario can have an impact on those around us.
