Raising Happy Resilient Young People

Michael Carr-Gregg’s presentation on Raising Happy Resilient Young People was fantastic. I wrote lots of notes that I would like to share with you. My main take aways were:

Ensure protective behaviours are in place

  • Another charismatic parent
  • School safety
  • Caring friends
  • Safe neighbourhood
  • Knowing where to go for help
  • Strong relationship with parent

If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it

Edit self-talk

See life as it is but focus on the good bits

When we are together, everything is better

Parenting tips

  • Have a developmental perspective
  • Set limits and boundaries
  • Have consequences
  • Create family rituals - a sense of ‘us-ness’
  • Use vitamin “n” - NO!
  • Be kind

SLEEP, EXERCISE & DIET are vitally important.

It’s easier to build strong children than repair broken ones.
