Natale in Italia

In Italian folklore, the Befana is an old woman who delivers gifts to children throughout Italy on Epiphany Eve (the night of January 5) in a similar way to Babbo Natale (Father Christmas) or the Three Magi.

Have you been good this year? If Italian children have been naughty they can expect to receive cenere e carboni (coal and ashes) instead of their favoured gifts!
