NEW Mandated English Online Assessment - Yr1

We are informing parents and caregivers of Year 1 students, that the Victorian Department of Education and Training has mandated an online English interview. This is part of the Victorian Education Department’s commitment to ensure that all students have access to a quality education and that they are prepared for the academic challenges of the future.

The interview will help to identify any gaps in a student’s literacy skills, so that the school can provide additional support where necessary. The interview will be conducted in accordance with the Department of Education Victoria English Online Interview guidelines. It will focus on phonics, speaking and listening skills. It will involve a series of questions and activities that assess the student’s ability to communicate and understand English.

The individual student interviews will take place during school hours and the results of the interview will be used to inform the school’s English programs. We understand that some parents may be concerned about the interview. Please be assured that the interview is designed to assess the student’s current level of English. The students classroom teacher will provide support and encouragement throughout the interview and will take the time to explain any questions to your child where appropriate.

For further information, view DET English Online Interview website.

2023 Instrumental music

Trafalgar Primary School offers students an extra-curricular Instrumental Music Program where students have the fantastic opportunity to learn and play a musical instrument of their choice.

We hire specialized music instructors that guide students in developing an appreciation and enjoyment of music in individual and small group lessons. Lessons offer an opportunity to have fun making music on the student’s chosen instrument and become a better musician under the guidance of an expert on that instrument.

We currently have 5 Instrumental music teachers working at Trafalgar Primary School. You can find a full description of the instruments we offer, bios of all the teachers and a digital instrumental music form here - TPS Music site/Instrumental

You can also get a form from the front office, or just outside the music room at the Instrumental form letter box. Return it to the front office or into the letter box and we can get lessons started as soon as possible.

There are currently over 100 students signed up and starting lessons and available positions are very limited.

Lost Property

We still have a sizable number of drink bottles and containers that have not been collected from last year.  Hopefully you recognize some of these so they can make there way back home.  They can be collected from the Lost Property cupboard near the office.  Anything still remaining after two weeks will be taken to the op shop.

Toner Cartridge Recycling

Congratulations to Trafalgar Primary School for looking after our environment by continuing to recycle our toner cartridges, keeping them out of landfill.

Breakfast Club News

Our Breakfast Club Program is free to attend and aims to provide a warm and welcoming space for ALL students when they arrive at school. We are open from 8.15am to 8.45am daily. Please note that Breakfast Club is not open until 8.15am.

It’s been another huge term in our Breakfast Club space. We continue to see around 100 happy, smiling faces enjoying a healthy start to the day. Some of our students enjoy a full breakfast while others are happy to pop in,  say hello and grab a milo.

We would like to thank the sponsors who kindly donate towards our program every week. We ask that you support these local businesses who support us. We would also like to thank our school community who keep us supplied with Milo, jam and fresh fruit from their own fruit trees.

If you have a business that would like to be part of our Breakfast Club Program please contact the school office.

It is a pleasure to have these students join our Breakfast Club team this term.
