2022 Reflection

As I reflect on this year, and indeed my eight years at Lakeside College, two themes that have been constant throughout that time are ‘pride’ and ‘community’. It has been a great privilege to serve the Lakeside College community and I am so proud of all that we have collectively achieved.

It is often said that “It takes a village to raise a child”. This is certainly apt for summarising our Lakeside College learning community. The success of the Primary School has been achieved through the dedication of many staff, students, student leaders, parents and carers, volunteers, PTFA and Council members. The presence and individual contributions of all who comprise our Lakeside College ‘village’ have helped make each day a celebration of discovery, success, learning and growth within our community. I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their collective efforts in nurturing and challenging our students to grow academically, spiritually, physically, socially and emotionally.

I am so grateful for the leaders, the teachers, and the non-teaching staff for their never-ending commitment to our students. It has been a great blessing as a leader to have the honour to serve such supportive, caring and dedicated colleagues.

We are so very proud of our students. We daily see the presence of God guiding them to be the best they can be and His love shining through them. Whether it is the joy of seeing our Upper Primary students interact with their new Prep buddies and form caring relationships with them, watching our students engaging with and serving our local and global communities through their project-based units of learning, or seeing the countless ways our students care, support and help each other; we are truly blessed to serve these amazing young people.

As we look back on 2022, we give thanks for the growth and many blessings we have received over the past 12 months:

  • The completion of our amazing new Upper Primary Centre and our Arts and Technology building for Primary and Secondary
  • Our students meaningfully connecting with our local and global communities as they engage in rich units of PBL.
  • House Cross Country and Inter-school sporting events
  • The blessings of new students and families throughout the school
  • Mrs Hanen, Ms Smit, Ms Rowland, Ms Dan, Mr Glover, Ms Sztarski, Ms Whinther, Mr Collins, Nurse Tess and Nurse Brooke, and all new staff
  • Book Week and Science Week celebrations - including exciting interactive learning experiences with guest scientists and authors, as well as attending Performing Arts incursions
  • PTFA  lunch orders, along with Mother’s day and Father’s Day stalls
  • Year 5 camp to Sovereign Hill, Ballarat
  • Year 6's five day action packed Melbourne Cross-curricular  Immersion Experiences
  • Year 3 and 4 day camp experiences to Mill Valley Ranch
  • Many enriching and immersive excursions and incursions across the Primary
  • Our many parent volunteers and supporters
  • Our wonderful Year 5 and 6 Buddies for Prep students
  • Our dedicated Primary Student Leaders playing a key role in leading both our  weekly Primary Flag Assemblies and Primary Worship Services
  • The use of PIVOT wellbeing surveys that gave students greater voice and agency about their own wellbeing
  • The celebration of National Reconciliation Week between the 27th of May to the 3rd of June. The theme for Reconciliation Week this year was, “Be Brave. Make Change.” through which the Primary School students focused on what they can do to support the reconciliation process and make a change for the better.
  • Welcoming the community back together face-to-face after years of interruptions and separation
  • The amazing work of our Year 5 and 6 students in developing business plans to secure a loan, seek advice and feedback from local community small businesses in order  to establish their own small businesses to raise money for ALWS  as part of this semester’s PBL

It has been a great privilege to serve a community rich in diversity, blessed and characterised by enthusiasm, warmth and care. I sincerely thank everyone for their support over the years.

I pray you are richly blessed over the Christmas break and in the year ahead.

Year 6 Graduation

This week we had the marvellous opportunity to celebrate Lakeside Year 6 learners with our graduation service and, ending the morning with a tasty breakfast with families at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.

The class of 2022 should be very proud of their efforts this year, and indeed throughout their whole Primary School journey. While the students and teachers in the Primary School find this day bittersweet, we are immensely proud of our graduates and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them. Please don’t be strangers class of 2022, be sure to pop in and say hello to us. You will be missed!

Disco

On Tuesday, Primary students dressed up in Nenon/Fluro disco attire for our annual Disco. The Disco was studded with lots of games and competitions directed by DJ Alan and Deb. We were wowed by some very committed ‘moves‘ as students (and some staff!!!!) found their ‘mojo’ on the dance floor.

A big thank you to all our students and staff who went to such efforts to evoke the ‘best’ of Christmas, looking truly amazing and having a wonderful time.
