Hello Parents & Caregivers,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Pastoral Guardian for Year 10 for the remainder of the year. I am extremely excited to step into this role and continue the great initiatives led by Tamara Richardson. I would like to acknowledge all the time, effort and genuine care Tamara delivered in her time as Pastoral Guardian.  I endeavour to continue to build on these great foundations.

When meeting with the students for the first time this term I delivered two main objectives;

“To empower Year 10 to be courageous, transition into senior school with a strong sense of purpose, belonging and a high aspiration to be the best they can be.”

“Be her best, not the best”

The first one being my goal and what I am truly aspiring to see and deliver for the year 10 cohort by the time we reach the end of the year. The latter a real theme for everyone to carry and focus on self-improvement through consistent effort with no comparison to anyone but yourself. I will be striving to build on the strong connections I have as well as continue to create an environment of high challenge with high support.

A few upcoming events for Year 10:

  • Week 4 - 11 May – Excursion USC or TAFE Campus
  • Week 4 - 12 May – Careers Presentations

I also invite you to view some photos from recent Year 10 University visits below. A short video montage of the UQ visit can also be found on our @mtakedron Instagram page, here.

Also, a big warm welcome to new student Bella Kennedy. We welcome you and your family to our community.

This week in our personal wellbeing practices we focus on Diet and Nutrition.  In particular, I would like to draw your attention to the article on SchoolTV, Feeding Hungry Teenagers by Ren Behan, Published 10 September 2013. This article gives a great insight into a variety of snacks that a are an excellent nutritious boost to keep them going until teatime.  The article suggests some creative, quick, high protein recipes that encourage us to step away from the packet snacks and instead take the opportunity to fuel ourselves well.  In homeroom there were discussions around snacks and ideas were shared, hopefully this ignites the excitement to try something new!

Lastly if you are like me and have jumped on the daily wordle bandwagon you will enjoy the nice graphic from Queensland health regarding water intake.  Can you guess the wordle?

That’s all from me for now, I am looking forward to connecting with you as the year progresses. I am here to support, please don’t hesitate to contact me danic@staff.mta.qld.edu.au
