It has been a busy start to Term 2. The first week of term saw some of the students accepting the challenge of running for Class Leader. The students had to present a 2-minute speech to their Learning Group on why they would be a good leader for their group and what they hoped to achieve in the role. The class then voted to choose the best candidates.

Congratulations to the following successful students:

LG 1  Ivy O’Brien, Aggie King

LG 2  Ruby Laidlaw, Amelia Kasparian

LG 3  Charlie Hart, Ava Byrne

LG 4  Piper Landsberg, Maddie England-Gilmore

LG 5  Lily Taylor, Mia Page

LG 6  Mollie Reimers, Reesha Singh

LG 7  Japneet Kaur, Georgette Power

These students will work with me on various projects throughout the term. The Class Leaders will be changed each term so many of the students will have the opportunity to take on a leadership role.

ENCOUNTER VISIT

We are working hard to help the students who are struggling to connect with their peers as a result of the disruption we experienced in Term 1 and long periods of absence some students have had due to COVID-19. The Encounter Team have been facilitating some activities during Homeroom time on a Wednesday where the Year 7 students interact with other students from a couple of houses. It is hoped that they will widen their circle of friends through these interactions.

DODGEBALL

Our College Captains organised an interschool dodgeball game with Padua for the Year 7 and Year 8 students this week. It was great to see the energy and enthusiasm displayed by all the students. There are many different clubs and groups run by the school during break times and we encourage the students to join a group that interests them, so they meet people with the same interests and this helps them to find their ‘tribe’. It would be great if you could explore the different options with your child and support them in joining one of the groups, especially if they are struggling to find their feet. The group meetings are advertised in the school daily notices.

In week 4 the Year 7 students will be undertaking the NAPLAN tests over the course of 3 days. As these tests are all online this year it is essential that the laptop is fully charged overnight so they don’t run out of charge during the tests. This is important for every school day as a lot of our work is completed on the computer. Please encourage your child to get into the habit of plugging their computer in every night, and check that it is actually charging, to ensure a stress-free day at school.

As we head into the winter term and there is the concern that COVID-19 and the flu will join forces it is important to make sure your child is maintaining a healthy diet. This week in Personal Wellbeing Practices the students looked at healthy eating habits and the effect it has on unleashing their potential. Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day as it refuels the body, ready for the day ahead. It is concerning to see the number of students that come to school without having had breakfast and their first food for the day is at 11am. On SchoolTV there are numerous articles on diet and nutrition that are worth exploring. Here is the link: Diet & Nutrition

I hope you are managing to stay safe and well. Don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of help in any way.
