Assistant Principals Report 

Welcome Back

We would like to welcome everyone back to the term; Heidelberg Primary School has a number of curriculum events during Term 2. Our Year 3, 5, and 6 students will attend school camps offsite, NAPLAN testing will occur during Weeks 3 and 4, and several extracurricular events, such as ANZAC Day Service, Education Week, HPS Cross Country Carnival, and incursions will be held. 

Tutor Learning Initiative Update

During Term 1, our Tutor Learning Intervention (TLI) teachers worked with our students in Year 3 and supported our Year 5 students in Writing and Reading. The students involved in the program were given support in the classrooms with additional reading and writing small group instruction, and withdrawn from the classroom for intensive learning in the targeted curriculum area. This structure was a pilot for the school on how we could support students with learning catch-up. 

At the end of Term 1, the teams involved and the Leadership team reviewed the practice and input for the students and the data achieved to move into Term 2. With the current structure, the students are involved in the program for five weeks with pre and post-testing. Then, based on the data, students are given goals, and the classroom teacher and TLI teachers work closely together to achieve this goal and turn this learning into an achievement shared with the student and families. 

In Term 2, the school will be looking at the assessment data and how students are coping linked to the academic growth as we move to the next slither of students to receive support in the middle point of the term.
