Extend After School Care at Kilvington Grammar School

Our Recap

The weather has produced a mixed bag over the last few weeks which has sadly kept us inside for a few days! Nevertheless, the kids have had a great time doing heaps of different things. Inside, has seen the kids produce some delicious treats including Rice Bubble Watermelon snacks as well as some delicious Pinwheel Pizzas! The focus of these were to see if we could swap a few of the ‘naughty’ ingredients to, as the kids said, ‘boring’ items and have it still taste delicious. The pizzas definitely saw this with the kids mounting on the capsicum, mushrooms and pineapple for not one or two, but three servings!

When we did get the chance to go outside the kids took full advantage. But first we made sure we were all wearing our hats and sunscreen as not to get burnt! The ELC children have thrived in their new surroundings with the children exploring all corners of the outside area to find snails and caterpillars and make them some new habitats. They have also loved the role play using the outside kitchen to make some great pancakes and mud cakes … literally! When in need of a rest, we have jumped into the reading corner and enjoyed some of the great books on offer.

The big kids have shown great initiative and organised their own games outside including four square, football, obstacle courses and just general shenanigans! Using a combination of oil, water, food colouring and Alka-Seltzer tablets, the kids also had a great time exploring some chemical reactions when they made their very own lava lamps one afternoon.

There was, as always, some great craft being initiated by the kids. The scratch art saw some very colourful designs being produced as well as outstanding drawings and even some dragons!
