The Little Mermaid – Years 5 & 6

The Junior School production of the Little Mermaid Jr was a visual feast!

With vibrant costumes created by Kathleen Vergers and Laura Hollingsworth and set design by Sacha Gough, we were instantly transported to the undersea kingdom of Trident, ably played by Hamish Bruce.

The dance routines were a joy to watch and the audience was captivated by the performances of Ella Morris (Ariel), Ursula (Charlotte Hogg), Sebastian (Xavier Clark), Ye Liu (Prince Eric), Peter Wang (Grimsby) and Rhea Gupta (Flounder).

With often complex scene changes, the entire cast worked brilliantly together as a team, ensuring that the show went without a hitch. The enthusiastic reactions from the audience reflected the outstanding efforts of everyone involved.

Well done to Musical Director, Fiona Radford, and Producer, Allison Bivard, for their hard work in bringing out the talents of all the students involved. It was an unforgettable production.

Young Social Entrepreneurs at Kilvington

Tomorrow's business leaders are today's young ones. Years 5 and 6 students have been learning about social entrepreneurships within their Religious Education lessons and putting their entrepreneurial skills to work to plan and conduct their Operation Christmas Child Campaign.

We held our ‘Mindful Purchase Mini Market’ on Tuesday 18 October and invited the whole student population of Kilvington Grammar School to participate. It was a wonderful, community minded, and fun filled event held during lunchtime on the Kilvington Green.

They raised just over $500 selling a wide variety of items, each either handmade or with a meaningful purpose behind them.

Well done team!

Toy Time in The Age

Our Year 7 'Toy Time Project' was recently featured in The Age. This STEM initiative sees groups of 4 students work together as companies to design and build toys that would educate 10 year olds about an aspect of forces and machines. Academic Dean of Science, Alice James, explains, "We wanted students to try to create something using skills they might need in a real world situation."

Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge

The Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge – Victorian State Final - was held on Saturday 15 October at Monash University, Caulfield.  Grant Zhong (Y7), Kevin Nguyen (Y6), Georgy Stamenos (Y6) and their parents attended this exciting event.

Students signed in and were directed to the computer labs where they completed computational challenges, while parents and teachers attended a talk given by Mr Eljakim Schrijvers who manages Bebras in Europe and the US.

After the talk and challenge, parents and students explored a technology marketplace put on by Monash University’s Faculty of Information Technology and enjoyed some light refreshments. This was followed by an awards ceremony where the students were awarded with participation certificates for their efforts.

Year 12 Valedictory Celebrations

Last Wednesday, a special Valedictory Service and dinner was held for our Year 12 students which were attended by families, teachers and students. At the Valedictory Service, each Year 12 student was farewelled by their House Dean and Principal, Jon Charlton, and lit a candle to represent the next stage of their journey. Head of Senior School, Matt Brinson, and Chaplain Rev. Janet Costello, shared some poignant, wise and amusing messages. It was great to see the students celebrating with their families afterwards.

The Valedictory dinner was held in the AFL Dining Room at the MCG and was enjoyed by students, their families and staff.

We wish all Year 12 students the best of luck as they complete their final exams at Kilvington.
