Instrumental Music Program
Are you interested in your child learning a musical instrument?
Have they shown an interest in music?
Does having Music lessons done during school hours suit you?
Learning a musical instrument is a sound investment in your child’s development and research shows that there are many benefits associated with learning music. Along with the pleasure of being able to produce musical sounds, benefits include helping children develop and mature, as well as improving their self-esteem and respect for others. Music may also help children in other areas of school as they develop critical thinking, creativity and problem solving skills.
St Raphael’s offers an Instrumental Music Program staffed by instrumental teachers who not only have a passion for music, but are qualified musicians and registered teachers. Our aim is to;
- enhance the education of children through personalised music lessons,
- provide a strong motivation for children to continue to engage in music activities,
- develop cooperative learning, social interaction and performance skills,
- develop in children an awareness and appreciation of many musical styles,
- develop instrumental and ensemble skills,
encourage children to strive for excellence.
Lessons are conducted during school hours and are rotated each week so that students do not miss the same class. All Instrumental Music Teachers (IMT’s) have current Working with Children Checks and provide tuition for the following instruments;
- GUITAR Pablo Naranjo 0406 103 008
- VIOLIN Elyane de Fontenay 0401 033 587
- DRUMS Jason Stonehouse 0419 872 875 (special drum offer at the moment: first lesson free!)
- VOICE Caroline Hawke 0424 450 599
- UKULELE Brett Dellavedova 0422 011 185
- PIANO Sarah Gare 0447 774 222
As well as lessons in music, all instrumental students are encouraged to participate in school ensembles, band or choir. If interested, IMT’s are able to help students practice and prepare for their roles in the ensembles. In addition, recitals are held at the end of Term 2 and Term 4 for each instrument - a small informal concert for students to display their progress to family and friends.

Senior Singers (Grades 3-6)
Our Senior Singers have grown in number since the start of the year! They are a very enthusiastic group who not only work on learning new songs, but also on technical aspects related to singing. They recently performed in the school yard to families waiting for their children at the end of school and will be performing at the Mothers Day assembly this Friday.
2018 End of Term 2 Instrumental Concerts
Students in the Instrumental Program are busy preparing for the end of Term 2 concerts - stay tuned for dates. Happy practising to all students!
