Year 7/10 Immunisation Information
Dear Parents/Carers and Students,
The Secondary School Vaccine Program offers free vaccines to Year 7 and 10 students. These vaccines provide protection against:
- Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough) – one dose for Year 7 students
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV) – two doses for Year 7 students
- Meningococcal A,C,W,Y – one dose for Year 10 students.
The dates of immunisations at Melbourne Girls' College are:
- Year 7s - Monday 18th March and Thursday 17th October
- Year 10s - Monday 13th May
Year 7 and 10 students received their vaccine consent card booklet last Thursday 31st January. Parents/carers need to read the information, complete and return the card regardless of whether your child is being vaccinated at school. If your child did not return their card this morning to their Wellbeing teacher, they should return it to the General Office or First Aid this week.
If your child has misplaced their card, they should try their Year Level Leader or First Aid as they have a few spares. Alternatively you can download and print the cards here:
The Yarra City Council immunisation service may contact you about the Secondary School Vaccine Program. Schools are authorised to provide basic parent/guardian contact details to local councils for this purpose. Contact Brent Houghton (brent.houghton@mgc.vic.edu.au) by Thursday 28th February 2019 if you do not want your contact details given to the Yarra City Council immunisation service.
To learn more about the Secondary School Vaccine Program, the vaccines, the diseases they protect against, or how you can prepare your child for vaccination, go to betterhealth.vic.gov.au
Finally, MGC does not keep a record of the immunisations provided to your child as this service is administered by the Yarra City Council immunisation service. You can also find out information regarding the immunisations your child has received via the Australian Immunisation Register.
For further questions, please direct them to the MGC First Aid members - Natalie Howell and Christine Wallace.
