Program Highlights- Music

Music Notes

We are almost half way through Term 2! It has been an incredibly busy  and productive term in Performing Arts already and it promises to continue at the same pace.

'Where words fail, music speaks.'

― Hans Christian Anderson

Performance Groups

Just a reminder that all students are welcome to participate in the many performance groups in the School. I would like to encourage all students (especially new students to the School), who learn an instrument to be part of one of the bands or orchestras. If they learn piano or sing, they are warmly invited to be part of one of the choirs. There is a wealth of research which suggests that being involved in a music program is beneficial for both the soul and the brain. Please contact the Music School if you are unsure about which performance group suits your child.

Prep to Year 2 Soiree

An appreciative audience was entertained by over 30 students from Prep to Year 2 on May 3rd at the lunchtime soiree. Students played the violin, guitar, piano, sang songs and performed Speech and Drama works.

For many students, this was the first time they had performed in front of an audience. Special thanks to the staff who prepared the students and Mrs Neuman, our accompanist.

Grease

Only six more sleeps until the opening night of Kilvington’s production of Grease. The cast, crew, musicians and staff have been working incredibly hard to put the show together. It is now up to you to support the students by coming along to see the students perform.

There are still a few tickets left. To book click here.

Lunchtime Concert Series

Kilvington will begin a new initiative after the conclusion of Grease called the Lunchtime Concert Series. Each Wednesday lunchtime in PVC7 students will have the opportunity to perform to their peers and staff in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Each week there will be a different focus e.g. soloists, battle of the bands, vocal groups or larger groups. It is hoped these lunchtime concerts will encourage as many students to perform as possible and showcase their growing skills and talents!

Glen Eira Recognition Service

Congratulations to the Kilvington Kadences and Krooners, Dolce Quartet and soloists Franco Lin, Saskia Mascitti, James Puli and Maddy Webster who performed at the Glen Eira Recognition Services on May 10th and 11th. The nights were attended by large audiences who were very appreciative of the students’ talents.

VCE Year 10 Recital

On the evening of May 9, students from Year 10 Music and VCE Music performed in a recital to family and friends. The recital is not only an assessment task, but an invaluable experience for the students to perform on their chosen instrument and gain skills in performance, presentation, and to try and combat nervous tension.

Well done to all the students who performed!

Student Achievements

Well done to all students who performed at the World Fair. This year, Kilvington had more students than ever before performing to the appreciative audience at several venues throughout the School.

Performances were many and varied and included solos, duos, small groups and large groups. The music performed covered many styles from classical to contemporary.

Star of the Week

Our 'Star of the Week' this week is awarded to three students. I would like to congratulate the following girls who stepped in at the last minute to perform at the Glen Eira Recognition Service when other students were unable to attend- Maddy Webster, Sarah de Voss and Hannah McCorquodale. The girls sang beautifully in front of the large audience and handled the moment with skill and poise. Well done!

Free Electric Organ!

The Music School would like to donate an electric organ to a loving home. The organ is around 20 years old and is in excellent condition. It is a DX 305 with drum fill, auto arpeggio and electro chord bass.

Please contact the Music School for further details.
