From the Principal Class Team

Dear Parents & Guardians
Welcome to the final newsletter of 2015. Its been a great term and a very successful year for the staff and students at SASC.
Orientation
This week we welcomed our 274 new Year 7 students and their families to the school as part of the transition program. Parents attended an Information Morning and students experienced a day of Year 7 classes and activities designed to help them get to know their classmates and to feel comfortable in their new school environment. We are really looking forward to welcoming them to the St Albans Secondary College community.
Apart from the Year 7’s, we have many new students and families joining us next year. Each Sub School will run an Induction Program for all new students to support them to settle in next year.
Thank you to our Transition Coordinator, Ms Marlene Cassar, and her team of staff and student leaders for all their work to give our Year 7 students a positive start to their secondary education.
Our Year 12 students of 2016 have just completed a two week Orientation Program, and Year 11’s a one week program to prepare for and commence course work for next year.
Feedback on the orientation program has been very positive. Thank you to VCE Learning Coordinator, Mr Robert Krysinski, and all our VCE and VCAL staff for their work on developing and conducting the orientation.
Farewells
Term 4 more than any other term is marked by goodbyes- to staff as well as students. This year we will be saying farewell to 2 staff members: Ms Mary Adamou and Ms Julie Bird.
Ms Adamou has accepted a position at Point Cook Senior Secondary College and Ms Bird is taking up a position at Melton Secondary College.
Ms Mary Adamou
Ms Adamou has been the Leading Teacher in charge of English and EAL over the last few years and has also completed an Acting Assistant Principal role during her time at the school.
Ms Bird has been the Leading Teacher in charge of our Senior School and has taught English & junior music.
Ms Julie Bird
We thank them both for their many contributions to the school during their time here and we all wish them well for this new chapter in their careers.
Year 12 News
Year 12 VCE results were available for students from 7.00am Monday 14 December. We understand that this can be a very anxious time for students, particularly if their ATAR does not seem to be what they hoped for successful entry into their selected tertiary courses.
We strongly encourage all our Year 12’s to contact Mr Jon Korteum, Ms Cathy Armstrong and Ms Colleen Lynch during change of preference week to either confirm their course selections, or to revise them as needed.
End of Semester Reports
Congratulations to all of our Year 9,10,11 and 12 students on the positive and serious approach they took to ther recent exams and semester tests. Our external supervisors, in particular were very impressed the year 12 students conducted themselves throughout the exams.
Semester 2 reports for students in Years 7-11 are now available on the parent / student portal.
If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to contact their year level coordinator.
