From the Principal Class Team

Dear Parents and Guardians

Thank you for all the support you have given your sons and daughters over the last few weeks of the exam period. It is, particularly for students doing their final VCE exams, a very stressful time, and we appreciate that it can be challenging for you and the rest of the family, as well! Your support and encouragement is invaluable to them, and a really important part of the work we do together. We would also like to acknowledge the important contribution of our team of exam supervisors, led by Ms Jenny Crocker, to the success of the exam program, and to ensuring that students are feeling settled and calm for each exam. This time of year is also extremely busy for our teaching staff as they not only prepare and mark exams, but conduct orientation and step up programs to give students the best start for 2019.

School captain elections

This week, all Year 11 students had the opportunity to vote for the 2019 School Captains and Vice Captains, and the voter turnout was excellent at the polling station in the VCE study centre.  Fourteen students nominated for the 4 positions, each presenting very persuasive statements in support of their candidacy.  The results will be announced in our final Alba for the year.  Congratulations to all the students who were nominated.

Year 12 completion of exams and Formal

The Year 12 VCE examinations are now finished and the students in Year 12 used the opportunity to celebrate the end of their secondary school journey on Thursday, 22 November at their formal.  The formal was held at the Luxor Reception Centre in Taylors Lakes and provided a great opportunity for the students to be together and to celebrate finishing their VCE or VCAL studies.

Term 4 Progress and Semester Reports

Term 4 Progress reports have now been finalised and are available on Compass.  Please contact the school if you are unable to access your son or daughter’s report on Compass via the Parent Portal.  Progress Reports provide an opportunity for students, parents and sub school teams to see how each student is tracking in their work across all their subjects.  Many students should be pleased with their progress to this point and we congratulate these students on their effort and high quality of work completed.  A small proportion of students however, will need to put greater efforts into the improvement of work or more timely completion of work.  For Years 7-10 students there is an opportunity to do so before the end of the semester.

If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to contact their year level coordinator.

The Semester reports for Years 7-11 will be available on compass via the Parent Portal on Friday, 14 December.

Orientation and Step Up Programs

Our Year 11 students are now finished their exams and are now in the middle of a two week Year 12 Orientation Program.  The Year 10 students will begin a one week Year 11 Orientation Program on Thursday, 29 November.

The extensive orientation programs ensure that students are well prepared to start the following year.  During the program students begin the coursework and assessment for 2019.  This provides them with a head start and assists to build confidence in coping with the pressure of these final senior years of study.

Thank you to all our VCAL and VCE staff for their work in developing and conducting these rigorous orientation programs for our students.

2019 Years 8-10 students take part in a Step Up Program for the three days 12-14 December.  This program enables students to work in their classes for 2019 and to gain an understanding of what they will experience in their next year of school and complete some preparation to make this transition as smooth as possible.
