Inter-school Junior Softball-Baseball Competition

Our St Albans Secondary College Year 7 and 8 Softball and Baseball teams competed in the local Interschool competition on Thursday, 18 October. This was after months of practice, instructed by super coach, Ms Di Phyland. The players were extremely enthusiastic – regularly meeting twice a week to enjoy each other’s company and to play “ball”. The teams were highly competitive at the event. Coached by Ms Simone Papagianopoulos and superbly led by Year 9 student, Jasmine Mondia, the Year 7/8 Girls Softball team played extremely well and could have easily won their section.

The Year 8 Boys Baseball team hit the “big time” – facing fast pitchers and competitive opposition. Expert teacher, Mr Loue Traianou did a stellar job coaching and encouraging the team and with learning the baseball rules.

Sincere thanks to Student Teacher, Mr Daniel Micallef for attending the Competition and to the Sports Co-ordinator, Mr Robert Lakovski for his organisational skills.

The Year 7 Boys Baseball won their section and proceeded to the Regional Finals held in Geelong. The team was highly competitive, exhibiting very good fielding skills and excellent sportsmanship. Thank you to Ms Papagianopoulos for scoring at this event and for her enthusiasm and positive attitude.

To all participants, you have the potential to become skilled players – and St Albans Secondary College encourages you to compete again next year in this amazing sporting code.
