Western United Football Club

On Friday 21st October, Ballarat High School students had a Western United Football Club experience. For those of you who don’t know, Western United are a newly formed soccer/football club that play in the A-League (the national soccer/football competition). They are the reigning premiers in not only the “real’ on ground soccer but they also won the “E-League”, (professional online gaming) too.

During the day the senior specialist sport students had the opportunity to discuss the pathways and employment opportunities in the Australian football and sporting industry. After this, they went on to tour the training facilities that Western United share with Essendon FC, at the newly built “The Hanger”. We had full access to all areas! The facility is state of the art, one of the best sporting training facilities in the country, with the highlight being the massive indoor synthetic stadium, the anti-gravity treadmills and sports medicine/recovery areas plus much more!. Upon leaving the tour, the students were presented with 2022 official players jerseys. Lucas received the captain’s top (Alessandro Diamanti #23).

After the tour, the senior students went off to AAMI Park to watch the game, Western United Vs MacArthur FC. While the senior students were watching, 12 of our year 8 soccer students were given a great opportunity to be the ball kids for the match. They were out on the ground the full match collecting the balls that went out and giving them back to the players. Apart from the weather with the heavy rain, it was a great experience!

Thank you to Western United Football Club for this great opportunity for our students and we hope we can continue this partnership into the future.
