Governing Council Reports

Early Years PLC

Early Years 1 students have been observing and recording the growth of their seeds for the past few weeks. They have enjoyed learning that plants need water, soil, air and sunlight in order to grow. It has been great to see students taking care of their plants and witnessing the changes. In writing, students have been investigating information reports and have begun constructing their own information reports on animals.

In mathematics, students have been exploring the concept of data. Year One students have been learning to interpret, collect and represent data on a range of topics. Foundation students have been constructing yes and no questions, collecting data and recording data through tallies and picture graphs.

Early Years 2 students have been busy carrying out a range of PAT assessments.

In English, we have been very busy learning how to write narratives. We have produced some very entertaining pieces of work. We have published these on google slides, where we have inserted pictures.

In mathematics, we have explored chance, data and graphing. We collected data from our classmates around a question, we then collated the information and made a graph to show the data. We even used google slides/sheets to make some graphs.

We have all had a fantastic term and are looking forward to a well-earnt rest in the holidays.

Primary Years

The students have been busy carrying out a range of PAT assessments.

In mathematics, the students have been working on place value, chance and data. In week 8 the Year 3/4 teachers met with the other focus schools as part of the Targeted Action Project, continuing to look at the students in the high bands in mathematics and how to maintain this.

301 and 302 held their assembly in week 8 and it was great to see lots of families attend.

The Year 3 students in 401, 402, 301, 302, 309 and 310 have finalised their work on procedural text and literature, finishing the unit by creating a procedural dialogue between two characters from the novel Charlotte’s Web. They have now begun exploring timeless narratives.  The Year 4 students examined traditional stories from Asia.

In week 9 the students had their last Footsteps session, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Middle Years

The Year 5/6 students have been busy completing their PAT assessments.

In mathematics, the middle year's students have been learning about probability and data. Students have been testing probabilities of events, analysing data sets, and creating data representations in various forms.

In English, the Year 5 students have been focusing on characters in animated films and creating their own animated stories, with the Year 6’s focusing on how literary texts create a sense of time and place.

On Friday of week 9, 51 Year 5/6 students went to the Tag Rugby Carnival. It was a great day with GPS winning the boy's division and making the final of the girl's division. We would like to thank all the parent volunteers who helped on the day by coaching teams. It is really appreciated.

The Year 5/6 choir also performed at the Festival Theatre last week. The performance was amazing and the students enjoyed showing off the culmination of their hard work.

Japanese

It has been so wonderful to see so many Year 5 and 6 students trialing for the Hiragana Competition. This annual competition will be held here at GPS in Term 4, Tuesday, 25 October. The team of 4 and 4 reserves will be announced in week 10 of this term. There will be 6 schools competing to be the fastest and most accurate readers of hiragana characters and words.

Science

In Science to end the term, Year 3-6 students have been creating information posters on animals from the Adelaide zoo. They have been creatively representing their knowledge gained in this term’s focus on biological science.

Foundation and Year 1 students have ended the term by looking at the external features of plants and animals, through an array of activities including drawing/labelling diagrams and sorting activities. Students from Year 2 have enjoyed learning about and creating life cycle wheels of different animals.
