0ne-two-rful 1/2s

Term 4 Week 4 2022 - Friday 28th October

What have we been up to?

It has been another fun filled 2 weeks of learning and getting into the swing of things this fortnight. A highlight of the fortnight would have to be the COLOUR RUN! All the 1/2 students had a ball and it was great to see so many smiling faces and coloured t-shirts at the end of the day. Special shout out to 1/2B for being the class to raise the most money, and Nicola O for being one of the highest individual fundraisers. Reading and Writing saw the students continue to explore the features or non-fiction texts and explanations. In Reading they have enjoyed looking at a variety of Claire Saxby nature books. They are narrative non-fiction texts that have taught the students about native Australian animals, and also told a story about them along the way. They have then explored the lifecycle of that animal and used the new learnt information to jointly write explanations. Math, this fortnight has given the students an opportunity to revisit addition and subtraction strategies and also explore area using informal units such as macaroni, blocks, counters and dominoes. Inquiry has seen students exploring special places and landmarks around Australia and Science has given students an opportunity to continue investigating how and why objects move.

What’s coming up next?

Reading

In Reading, students will continue to develop their comprehension skills with a specific focus on how to find information within non-fiction texts. They will also look at what the Main Idea or Summarising is and how to find the main idea in non-fiction texts and summarise fiction ones.

Writing

In Writing, students will use their new learnt skills to write their first published explanation text on the lifecycle of their choice. They will also revisit Recounts and their structure and use their knowledge to write a recount of their busy Week 5!

Maths

In Maths, students will revisit division and multiplication strategies and explore the relationship between the two operations. They will also continue working towards achieving their academic and class WIGS which are also linked to Maths.

Inquiry & Science

In Inquiry, students will begin to explore landmarks around the world. They will discuss their significance, purpose and what makes them special for each country. In Science, students will continue to explore forces. They will look at chain reactions and how forces cause change.
