Fabulous 5/6

Term 4 Week 4 2022 - Friday 28th October

A Note from the Teacher

Week 4 has sailed past us, and we are in the home stretch now. From all reports the kids did brilliantly while I was away, and it has been great being back in the classroom with the students. A huge than you to Miss Jackson and Miss Anna for holding it all together while I was away. I also want to say thank you for all the best wishes and positive messages I have received while away and since I have been back. We had a lovely little girl, Claudia, and every day is a crazy new experience.

We have so much happening in the coming weeks that I must ask you to keep an eye on Compass or check your children’s bags for permission notes and notices. Some highlights will be the Space Excursion next week, Bike Ed, Graduation, and an Expo. Stay tuned!

In the Classroom by Mitch and Sahana

In English we have been focusing on poetry. Some of the types of poetry we have learnt are rhyming poems, limericks and we are currently working on a mix of Ballads and songs/ song writing. We have been discussing different songs and finding the meaning and looking for relations to poetry. Some of the songs we have looked are Africa by Toto, Wonderwall by Oasis and Thrift Shop by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. We have had a lot of fun doing these activities. The following poems are one ballad and one limerick.

Robbie Williams

A Ballad by Mitch

Meaning full music game,

Just let him entertain,

Robbie Williams is his name,

His music in my vein.

He unleashes his soul,

His music is so bold,

His spirit of rock n’ roll,

Still rockin’ when he’s old.

He dedicated his whole life’

His spirit will hold so tight,

His music kills like a knife,

His music you cannot fight.

He is a music legend,

His music is like heaven,

His music will not end,

I’ll listen till I’m 107.

In Maths we have been focusing on turning Fractions into Percentages. First, we did a survey with questions like which continent do you want to travel to or what’s your favourite animal. After that we put are answers into fractions. We did out of 20. So, to turn a fraction into a percentage, you need to find out how many times 20 goes into a hundred. If the number was 5/20, then since 20 goes into 100, 5 times. You need to times 5 by 5 to get 25. You should have 25/100. Since per cent is by a hundred, you get rid of the 100 and add the percentage sign to the end of the number. Your answer should be 25% now.
