Prep 1 & 2

  Prep News

Prep have been working so hard during our morning MSL lessons.  Have a look at this impressive  video to see what our morning routine is like. You are always welcome to come in and help out in the mornings so you can see this in action! Well done Preps and Ms Maloney!

This week's reading rule we refer to this as the 'Thief Rule '. When the Y at the end of a  1 syllable word makes the i sound and at the end of a 2 syllable word makes the e sound.

Maths

Preps have been working on understanding capacity. They compared objects  by pouring from one container into the other to see which one holds more and used language such as ‘holds more’ and ‘holds less’. It looks like they had fun in the sunshine also. Sounds like a win win situation to me.

Parent Help

As we continue on our Multi-structured sensory language approach, you may be wondering how best to support your child at home to compliment what is happening in class. Here is a website 'Five From Five' with some helpful tips to look at your leisure.  Just scan the QR

 1/2 News

Swimming

What a resounding success this programme has been for the years 1/2's! We have really enjoyed watching our students achieve success in various ways.  Not only has their swimming improved but so has their organisation, time keeping and resilience.

Literacy

Multisensory Literacy

This week students have been looking at the 'Gentle Cindy rule.' This rule explains how e, i and y make C say 's' and make G say 'j'. Of course there are always exceptions to this rule for example get, give, gift and soccer to name a few but the rule works for majority of our words.

Have a listen to this catchy shanty with your child to find out more about rule. Ask them what they can remember.

 Writing

The Writing Revolution is a method that enables students to master the skills that are essential to become competent writers. In turn, those skills equip students to become better readers, to communicate more effectively in writing and speaking, and most importantly, to elevate their thinking.

We have started using some of these skills in the 1/2 classroom this term. Students have been looking at fragments, unscrambling sentences and expanding sentences. This is something the whole school will participate in next year.

Have a look at some of the fantastic work.

Mathematics

During the first few weeks of Term 4 students have been recapping over lots of the mental strategies for addition and subtraction as well as their Place Value knowledge.

Tri Skills

When we asked the students to rate their first Tri Skills session they gave it a resounding 10/10. This program will develop the Foundation Movement Proficiencies which will support students in and out of the classroom.

Check out the school Instagram to see a sneak peek.
