Principal’s Message

Mrs Kath Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a start to the term! It was great to hear the stories of our Stage 3 trip to Canberra, with many experiences had and memories made. I wish to thank Mrs Katie Goddard and Miss Tahlia Morrissey for accompanying our students on this excursion. Also many thanks to Mr Nick Baird and his staff at St Francis Xavier School Narrabri, and Ms Robyn Traynor, for their organisation of the excursion.  Also I wish to acknowledge the support of our PTF in assisting our students to attend this excursion at a subsidised rate.

This Wednesday we will be hosting the much anticipated Small Schools Public speaking competition. The day will commence at 9am and will conclude at approximately 1pm.

All are welcome to come and watch the competition. There will be a cafe operating as part of the Year 6 fundraising efforts.

This Tuesday our Year 6 students will be attending a Secondary Taster Day at St Mary's College in Gunnedah. This will be an exciting opportunity for our students to meet other students who will be attending St Mary's College next year, as well as beginning to orientate themselves with staff and the school.

Today, all students in Year 5 will be sent home with a 2023 Student Leadership information package. Students in Year 5 are able to nominate themselves for these roles and are encouraged to discuss the role of a leader with their families and complete the nomination form and return it to school by Monday 24 October.

Socktober is an annual fundraiser for Catholic Missions and is held each October. During this time fundraisers are held at the school as part of our contribution to Catholic Missions. For this year we will participate in the following events and ask that students bring in a gold coin donation for each event. Please note the amendment to the dates:

Thursday 20 October - coin trail (please bring in any coins that you have from home so students can make the longest trail).

Thursday 27 October - crazy sock and hair day  (gold coin donation)

Sacred Heart Parish are looking to reinstate the altar servers program here in Boggabri for Saturday masses. We would be looking to create a monthly roster and are looking for students who have received their First Eucharist to volunteer for this role in our parish. Please contact me at school if your child would like to participate. The training for altar serving will commence in November.

Our Kindergarten transition will continue from Week 1 in Term 4 for students commencing Kinder in 2023. Transition will conclude on Thursday 10 November (Week 5). On this day we will have a special assembly for our transition students at 2:30 pm.

Advertising for our 2024 transition program will commence this term. If you know of anyone wishing to enrol their child for 2024 and participate in the transition program next year, please let me know. Program details and enrolment forms for next years transition program will be available later in the term.

If you know of anyone who is intending to enrol at Sacred Heart either in Kindergarten for 2023 or any other year group, please encourage them to contact me at school.

The Term 4 parent calendar has been attached to this week's newsletter. If there are any changes we will notify you as soon as possible.

Congratulations to Miss Tahlia Morrissey who commences her career as a teacher here at Sacred Heart School this term. We wish her every happiness in her vocation.

Happy birthday to Kale Dickens who turns 9 tomorrow and to our groundsman Bill Jackson who will celebrate his birthday on Wednesday.

Take care

Kath Baird
