Exciting Term 4 Ahead

Welcome back to Term 4!

The final term for the year is always very busy, but this year will be like no other. Three of the major camps we postponed at the start of the year, due to COVID-19, will be running this term and the 5/6 Melbourne Camp will also take place on November 22nd – 25th as originally planned. The Year 8 Surf Camp will take place from November 21st – 25th, the Year 7 Grampians Campers will head off on December 6th – 9th and the Grade 3/4s will travel to Ballarat on December 7th – 9th.  Throughout Term 4 we also have our Variety Night, Awards Night, Year 6 & 10 final celebration evenings and our Year 7 and Prep orientation days. There are also a number of sporting events scheduled this term, so please keep a close eye on our Facebook Page and Compass, as well as regularly check in with your child as to what events are coming up.

Thanks to all parents/carers for your support with these events, and a massive thanks to our wonderful staff who spend many hours planning and facilitating these extra-curricular activities for our students.

Partnership with Corwin Australia - Update

In recent months we have started some very important work to develop greater student voice, leadership and agency at Merbein P-10. This has led us to discuss and document what makes an effective learner at Merbein P-10 College. These learning dispositions have been documented by staff, members of school council, groups of our primary & secondary students and parents. I would like to sincerely thank all those parents who submitted their thoughts on the characteristics of an effective learner on Compass last term.

Last night, at our professional learning meeting, our staff also documented the characteristics / behaviours /dispositions of a quality teacher at Merbein P-10. We will also be seeking thoughts and feedback from students and parents around this question in the coming weeks. Our aim is to clearly document all this information so that our students and staff have clear teaching and learning goals to aspire towards.

Building Project News

Our fantastic building team continue to make great progress on the new Science Centre. We remain very hopeful that we will be able to use this great new facility early in Term 1 2023, or even by the very start of the school year if things continue to progress so well. I have included a couple of current photos of the work below for those of you who may not have seen it.

Final Student Free Days for 2023

The two remaining student free days for 2023 will be held on Monday 31st October (the day before the Melbourne Cup holiday) and Monday 19th December (the second last day of Term 4). Staff are required to attend on these days to complete professional learning and to also move classrooms in preparation for Stage 2 of the building project, which will begin in Term 1 2023. However, students do not attend school on these days.
