Principal Report

Principal Message Week 2 Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3!

I don’t think any of us were expecting to be starting our term remotely again but here we are. I think after the last experience we are perhaps less daunted by the process but none the less it is still a challenging time for us all.

I would like to start by thanking the staff for the amazing effort that has gone into preparing for Remote Learning 2.0. Like you we only learnt that we were heading back to remote learning the Sunday prior to July 20. I must say I had a very difficult night’s sleep as we had no further communication regarding how it was all supposed to work until very late that evening.

This time around we are all, I think, less apprehensive and the week of planning gave us time to put in place many of the learnings from round one. I am very grateful to those who participated in the Parish Education Board survey as it gave us many valuable insights from your perspective which I shared with staff on day one. Your insight and our learnings formed the basis of our discussions and has ultimately guided how we have planned our approach this term.

I am confident that we will be able to continue to deliver a high quality and differentiated program to all our children during this time. Throughout the week there are many more opportunities for children to participate in smaller targeted groups and for more contact between school and home. We acknowledge the significant role you play in your child’s education and we have learnt through the last experience that your partnership has never been more vital.

As we head into our second week I would like to thank you for your support and understanding during this very difficult period for all within our community. To our staff and children, I would like to say congratulations on navigating your way through week one and the return to online learning. You have shown great resilience and adaptability.

It takes courage and perseverance when it comes to change and we have all had to adapt to a whole new way of engaging in education this year which is by no means a small feat in my book.

This is a time like no other. So, as we head as a community into Term 3, may we proceed with confidence and courage for whatever lies ahead.

Face Masks

In line with advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government has announced that those in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire must wear a face covering when they leave home from 11.59pm on Wednesday 22 July 2020.

Face coverings will be mandatory for people aged 12 and over. These measures will slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and help protect the community.

In schools, this means that school-based staff and secondary school students in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will be required to wear a face covering.

Staff Requirements

All school-based staff must wear face coverings at school, and when travelling to and from school.

Teachers and education support staff will not be required to wear face coverings while teaching, but those who wish to do so, can. Teachers should wear face coverings in other areas of the school when not teaching (for example, in the staffroom, on yard duty and when providing first aid or taking temperatures), and when travelling to and from school.

Student Requirements

Students who attend primary school for on-site supervision will not be required to wear a face covering. Students who are aged 12 by Year 6 will not be required to wear face coverings. The Victorian Chief Health Officer has advised that it is not practical to require some primary school students to wear face coverings while others are not required to. As such, wearing a mask at school is optional for students.

Parent and Vistor Requirements

Parents/carers will be required to wear face coverings whenever they leave the house, including for school drop off and pick up. All school visitors (including parents) are required to wear a face-covering when they are onsite.

The Department of Health and Human Services website has advice about face coverings, including:

  • which different types can be used
  • how to make your own
  • how to safely wear one
  • how to safely remove it.
