Teaching Sprints

This term all class teachers will continue with their teacher improvement work using Teaching Sprints to improve their teaching practice and as a result improve student learning outcomes. Teaching Sprints is a process which help facilitate teacher learning. As Research Lead and Literacy Leader, I support the teachers as they work collaboratively to reflect on evidence informed research and analyse current student data in a particular learning area to improve their teaching practice. This term all teacher teams are focussing on improvement in Reading, with a particular focus on Modelled Reading. The teacher improvement work is something that normally occurs when teachers work in classrooms with students, however this term we have the added complexity of teaching and learning remotely, and teachers are going to continue with this work whilst teaching remotely. When your child is learning online, you may hear your child’s teacher talking about modelled reading and you may see them implementing some new strategies.

Parent Session

Over the next few weeks I will send some information about an online Parent Session that I will run on Modelled Reading and how you can support your child at home. This will be similar to the parent session we ran in first term on Spelling, which the parents who attended, found extremely valuable.

Other exciting news…

You may have read in an earlier newsletter this year that I was invited to present at the National Teaching Sprints Summit in Sydney in March this year. Unfortunately, this was cancelled because of the Covid restrictions that came into place one week before. It was a great opportunity for us to share the wonderful learning that has happened here at Trinity with other schools from around Australia. We will now have to wait for the Summit in 2021 but we will continue our work in this space in the meantime. Just recently, I was also invited to contribute to Dr Simon Breakspear’s book that he is putting together with Bronwyn Jones on Teaching Sprints. This is a wonderful privilege and all our class teachers should be congratulated on the great work they have done in this area over the last few years.

Finally, please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning during remote learning.
