Don't Forget to Wash your Hands

Dear Parents,

We are off and running again and experiencing a bit of deja vu. The students have come back with much enthusiasm and are VERY eager to continue their learning.  We seemed to have switched back to remote learning quite smoothly. Teachers have taken onboard the feedback they received from parents, students and colleagues after remote learning in Term 2 and have made adjustments to their program. I again remind parents that there is no  expectation to complete all tasks and please only do what your family can cope with.

School Closure Day changes

We had planned for teachers to participate in a Spirituality Day as well as work with leaders from Catholic Education on our School Review. Unfortunately both these days have needed to be reworked. Thursday 6th August will no longer be a closure day but Friday 7th will be, as the staff undertake First Aide training as well as Emergency Management Training. We have moved our Review day to  Friday 4th September which will now be a closure day.

School Photos

We had rebooked our School Photos from May to August and now they are rebooked for 21st October. Here's hoping this date goes ahead.

Face Masks

As of today, it is mandatory to wear masks when in public. Staff are also required to wear them at school except when they are teaching. Any primary age student 12 years or younger are not required to wear a mask at school. For many of our children, this may be daunting and may increase levels of worry and anxiety. This social story explains to children what they can expect to see when they go outside. We hope this can support families to help their children during these changes in our community.

Welcome to Helen

Yesterday we appointed Helen Varthalis to the role of Learning Diversity Leader. This role, which had previously been undertaken by Annabelle Marinelli and myself, encompasses the coordination of students with disabilities and other individual student needs. It also has the responsibility of ensuring we maintain government requirements with NCCD funding (National Consistent Collection of data for Student with Disabilities). We also employ 9 wonderful Learning Support Officers who support our students learning. Helen's role will also involve co ordinating and mentoring our LSO's as well. Helen will work on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Staff Farewell

Last term I introduced you to Marissa Mangan who we appointed to work 2 days per week following Anna Plackett's maternity leave. Marissa unfortunately resigned on the first day of Term 3. At very short notice, she decided to fly back home to Ireland the next day due to concerns around Covid. We were very disappointed to lose Marissa but absolutely understand her dilemma and wished her all the best for her future back home.

Meet our Staff

Trinity has always been proud of its sense of welcome and community. This has been very challenging this year particulary  inthe way we have not been able to do this with our new families so we thought over the next few weeks we would introduce or re-introduce you to our wonderful and very hard working staff as many of our new families may not have had an opportunity to meet them.

My name is Suzanne Grufferty and I am from Ireland. I am new to Melbourne and I love it here. I like playing sports, especially tennis, hockey and skiing! I also love to bake lots of delicious things like cakes and bread. I love exploring and travelling to new places!

Parker Qing - Mandarin Teacher

Ni hao everyone,

I am the Chinese Mandarin teacher at Trinity Catholic School. I’m excited to share my knowledge about China with all of you. Hope we can have a wonderful journey learning Chinese together. Xie xie!

Lindy Smith - Acting Principal

For those who haven't been able to put a face to the name I'm Lindy. I have been a teacher for very many years, a wife to one very lucky husband and a mother of 3 wonderful children. I should have also been a mother-in-law this year but Covid put an end to our daughter's wedding in May. We are hoping that the rescheduled date in  November this year can go ahead. Not looking good at the minute.

Stay safe and have a good week.

Lindy
