Focus on Learning
Mrs Sharnie Meade Y5/6
Literacy Focus - Picture Book:
Students have spent the last couple of weeks learning about the techniques used in Picture Books. Our particular focus has been the Indigenous author, Bronwyn Bancroft. Bancroft has written and illustrated a variety of picture books. The students analysed her illustrative and written techniques, and were asked to use these as an inspiration for their own picture book. The level of engagement and achievement in this task was amazing! See some of the work below. Enjoy!
Literacy Focus - Big Write:
Year 5/6 enjoyed writing about Green Sea Turtles in their Big Write last week. Our focus text was an Information Report, and the students were striving to use correct paragraphing as well as purposefully using all three sentence types. Big Write allows the students uninterrupted writing time, and the chance to reflect upon their own writing, and the writing of a classmate.
Mathematics Focus:
We have been learning about multiplication and division this week. We have learnt many different strategies for multiplying (split strategy, area model and algorithm). We are working on becoming more confident with algorithms. It is important all students work on their times tables at home, as well as at school, so that higher level questions can be completed accurately. Below are photos of our Maths Learning Intentions and Success Criteria (telling the students what we are learning, and giving a summary of learning), as well as our Maths Wall. This Maths Wall changes regularly to reflect the topic we are learning about. The orange word cards show our mathematical vocabulary for that topic.
Religion Focus:
Our focus in Religion has been Pentecost. This is an important time in the Church's calendar. At Pentecost the Holy Spirit came to the disciples and gave them the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. Students have completed some work on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit - see our great work below!
CAPA Focus:
The students have been working hard on learning different techniques in Dance this term. This hard work has culminated in them composing some dances in class time over the last few weeks. See a selection of our fantastic performances below!
