Student Leaders

National Young Leaders Day - Friday 17 March

The National Young Leaders Day at the Convention Centre was attended by the 8 school leaders, Mrs Isgar and Angus. School leaders from primary and high schools across South Australia were also there. We started our day by dancing, led by Ezra from Dance Curriculum. We learnt the dance ‘It’s fun to learn’. It was lots of fun learning the dance moves.

During the day we listened to a number of high-profile Australians talk about their journey as a leader. The speakers were:

  • Gemma Houghton- AFLW star who was one of the first players recruited by the Port Adelaide Power
  • Nathan Luff- Best-selling author who is most known for his books ‘Chicken Stu’ and ‘Nerd Herd’ series
  • Anthony ‘Harries’ Carroll- One of the most recognisable lifeguards in the world thanks to the TV series ‘Bondi Rescue’, he has spent more than three decades protecting beachgoers on the Australian coastline
  • Jodie Oddy and Andrew Hayes- Current hosts of the Nova 919 breakfast program, both with broad experience across TV and media.

We learnt about leadership skills, responsibilities, and problems you may need to get through in life, to be persistent when faced with problems and to always have a go at something. During the breaks of the day, we got to have photos and autographs with the speakers and ate our food. Overall, we think the best part of the event was learning about leadership from different people and the interactive games like Twister, Where’s Wally and the dances. The kind of leaders that we want to be for our school are leaders who are: trustworthy, responsible, brave, confident, reliable, kind, helpful, respectful, and friendly.
