Library News

The library has a fabulous selection of both fiction and non-fiction titles for students to borrow. Some of our new titles on display include

The very first library short story competition for aspiring writers is now open.  Students are asked to submit an original piece of writing from any of the themes listed on the promotional poster.  These include: Adventure, Art, Democracy, Diversity, Fantasy, Freedom, Justice, Love, Nature, Peace, Respect, Time Travel and Voice.

Judges will be selecting two winning entries from the Year 7-9 and Years 10-12 age group.  There is a word limit of two pages or 1,000 words.  Entries should be submitted to the library desk by the last day of term, Thursday 6 April.  Winners will be announced in Term 2.  Prizes include movie vouchers and stationary packs.

Book Club

Book Club was held this Thursday at lunchtime with the final book club for Term 1 on Friday 31 March where we will be discussing both titles: Blueback and The Maze Runner.

Blueback by Tim Winton

“Abel Jackson has lived by the sea at Longboat Bay ever since he could remember. He helps his mother each day and loves to dive. One day he meets Blueback, the biggest and most beautiful fish he's ever seen.
When Abel's mother is approached by developers she decides she must do something to protect their fragile piece of coastline, but can Abel and his mother save Blueback and Longboat Bay in time?”

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

“When the doors of the lift crank open the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he's not alone. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade-a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze.
Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know how or why they came to be there-or what's happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back they will risk everything-even the Grievers; half-machine, half-animal horrors that patrol its corridors-to try and find the way out.”

The library provides all book club titles for students to read.  Students are welcome to drop by the library or email library@mgsc.vic.edu.au to add their name to the mailing list.
