This term a handful of students, including myself, have had the opportunity to participate in the Emerging Sciences Victoria (ESV) Program, run by John Monash Science School. This program allows students to broaden their scientific knowledge in both Medical Physics and Neuroscience. I have been given the opportunity to participate in the Medical Physics program for Term 1. Every Tuesday and Wednesday we meet in the meeting room and connect to Webex to join the online meeting. Our teachers Ms Ryan and Mr Rossiter host these Webex meetings from John Monash and teach us about topics such as body systems, sound waves, diagnostic scans, etc. In our class, we have just finished a topic on body systems. Over Webex, we were split up into groups and had to complete a body systems research task. Each group was given one of the 11 body systems to research. My group was researching the reproductive system. A ‘fun fact’ my group found is that the reproductive system contains the largest and smallest human cells. So far, I am really enjoying Medical Physics, as I have met new people, learnt new things, and found a new passion for science.

In DigiTech, we have been learning about how to code different programs for the micro:bit using Python. We have coded helpful tools for camping and hiking, such as a step tracker (in the photo) and a digital compass. It’s been super fun learning about the micro:bit and Python! We are going to design our own digital camping tool later in the term.
