From the Principal

NAPLAN Has Started
NAPLAN is underway, and our staff have worked alongside our students to ensure everything runs smoothly. So far, the feedback has been positive, and I am so pleased that most of our students are approaching the tests calmly and with appropriate focus. As a team, we thank our parents for putting NAPLAN into the proper perspective and supporting their children throughout this process.
ISA Sport - Summer Season
I want to congratulate all of our Summer ISA Sports team for their fantastic performances this season. We understand the commitment required from our students, coaches, managers, and assistants, and we are incredibly grateful for the support provided by parents and caregivers. With the contribution of all involved, weekend sports are possible. Thank you!
I am thrilled to announce that the Girls’ Open Basketball team and the Boys’ 15s Basketball team have won their respective Premierships. I was fortunate enough to be present at both grand finals, and the performances of both teams were simply outstanding. I was so proud of not only the effort of these teams but also the spirit in which they played their games. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and congratulate them on a job well done. Thank you to all those who turned up on the day and supported the teams - we had a great crowd in attendance, which made a huge difference when the games got tight.
I want to acknowledge Megan Harris, our Head of Sport, for her exceptional work. We eagerly await the upcoming winter season and anticipate even more success from our talented student-athletes.
Future Schools - Canberra Visit
We are excited to share that four of our staff members, John Forbes, Sally Herron, Dirk Weibye, and Chris Sanders, recently travelled to Canberra as a delegation on the Future Schools Tour. They visited four innovative schools and gained valuable insights into their teaching practices, curriculum development, and student engagement strategies. Our team is now curating their observations and will present these to the rest of the staff in the coming weeks.
Australian research from John Hattie highlights the importance of a strategic approach to teacher professional learning, which extends beyond just improving academic performance. Hattie's study (2022) shows that investing in the growth and development of teachers is critical to enhancing student outcomes across a range of areas, including academic, social and emotional domains.
At BMGS, we will always be committed to providing our staff with outstanding opportunities to see and learn from the best, and the Future Schools Tour is just one example of this commitment. The insights gained by our delegation will help us continue to innovate, improve our teaching model, and serve our students better.
