Senior School Focus Group: Empathy Week

On 22nd February and 1st March, senior school students spent their focus group lessons brainstorming, learning and discussing about what EMPATHY means to celebrate 2023 Empathy Week. Here are some posters made with common ideas and phrases from our Year 11 Empathy Week Focus Group activities.

Student Report: Reuel F

On Wednesday 8th of March the Year 12 VCE physics class met up at Melbourne’s infamous Luna Park for a day of fun and to analyse the science behind how many of the theme park rides function. We weren’t the only school there, Luna Park was especially booked out for countless schools across Melbourne whose year 12 physics classes visit the park to study the topic of motion every year. We began with the hair-raising ‘enterprise’ which essentially spun us around in both a horizontal and vertical direction at crazy speeds - the perfect way to start off our morning. Next up was the ‘spider’ which was all about spinning. We sat in small carriages that spun simultaneously as the whole ride spun as well. As dizzying as it sounds, it was loads of fun! By far the most enjoyable ride for us was the ‘pharaoh’s curse’ which swung us back and forth until we eventually did an entire loop while upside down! Although we weren’t even the right way up, St Kilda boasted some great harbour views from the very top of this ride. Overall, I think I speak for everyone when I say we all thoroughly enjoyed the day away from school spending time at Luna Park even if it does mean we have to study the physics behind these rides after.
