Principal's Report

Thoughts from our Principal - Mr Geoff McManus

What a whirlwind finish to the term we have had at St Joseph’s Glen Innes! From 1500 metre trials on Monday to a wonderful display of Talent on show on Tuesday, to a rugby league carnival in Inverell on Wednesday and a great night of fun on Thursday at the School Disco, we have so many talented and gifted children at our great school! Congratulations and thanks are offered in spades to those generous staff and parents who coordinated and ran these worthwhile community-building events. Thank goodness the holidays are here so we can catch our breath!?

Congratulations to the 74 students who received Attendance Certificates on Friday. As a school committed to excellence and growth in academic outcomes and positive wellbeing, it is wonderful to see the consistent attendance record of so many of our kids to ensure they get the best possible chance to improve. 23 children received a Gold Certificate and a ‘Furry Cow’ voucher for 100% attendance in Term Two 2023. A further 22 children received Silver certificates for 95% and above attendance and 29 children received Bronze certificates for attending 90% and above.

And that hard work and successful learning partnership between our kids and their teachers reaps rewards when we benchmark ourselves against the national standards in NAPLAN. And while ACARA has modified the reporting scale from 10 Bands to four Proficiency Levels, our school continues to demonstrate high levels of proficiency that ‘future-proofs’ our graduates. 75% of our Year 3 children achieved in the top two levels for Reading and 100% achieved proficiency in Writing. In Year 5 every single student achieved proficiency in Writing and 93% achieved in the top two levels for Reading.

Please travel safely if you are holidaying out of Glen Innes over the break. We look forward to another term where we all work in partnership to make a good school - GREAT! School begins on Monday 17 July at 9 am.

Until next time.

May God go with you.

Geoff McManus
